Mayan for “Black Jaguar”, Ek Balam was an important and influential Mayan city, inhabited for about 1000 years. Small in comparison to the other ruins, this site is unusual because only the main ruin, the Tower, is excavated. This site is located northeast of Chichén Itzá.
