Playa del Carmen

This amazing underground river offers a truly magical adventure. Hike and swim through the 600 meter route and observe stalactites and stalagmites that date back millions of years. The tour includes all necessary equipment, towels, lockers and a snack. You will be offered a walking stick, take it. All tourists will have to take quick outdoor showers so be sure to wear bathing suits under your clothes. There are separate change rooms where you can put your personal belongings in a locker and carry your key on a wrist bracelet. When you enter the underground river, you will link hands and a guide will give you specific instructions as you walk along. The river itself is knee deep and some areas you have to swim lightly and in one area you have to swim on your back. When walking you take one step, stop, and then move your next foot. This is to give you a good grip and to prevent the water becoming muddy. The hike is about a mile and after the tour you can enjoy a local lunch and purchase any photos you wish.

Tour hours are daily at 9:00 am, 10:00 am, 12:00 pm, 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm and admission is $79 USD for adults, $39.50 USD for children 4 to 11 years old and the tours last about 3 ½ hours. Rio Secreto is located 10 minutes outside of Playa del Carmen.
